On December 14th, 2024, I had the opportunity to kick off the main program at the Nature Talks Photo Festival. It was an honor to share the stage with renowned photographers like Jasper Doest, Albert Dros, Agorastos Papatsanis, Tin Man Lee, and Paul Goldstein, among others.
When invited to speak at the event, I immediately knew I wanted to focus on the Pantanal, particularly the majestic jaguars.
My presentation, titled “How a wetland changed my life,” chronicled my transformative journey from my first visit to the present and its profound impact on me. I discussed the Pantanal’s significance as an ecosystem, highlighted its unique species and my personal encounters with them, as well sharing the importance of research and jaguar conservation efforts, and wrapped up with a Q&A session.
The day was incredibly fulfilling as I connected with many passionate photographers and listened to stories and viewed stunning images from esteemed photographers.
Besides the great presentations during the day, part of the program was the announcement of the Nature Photographer of the Year. This edition more than 23.000 images had been submitted and the quality of images was outstanding.
After the award ceremony we were treated to a showcase of outstanding images in the exhibition space, featuring both winners and highly commended entries.
If you’re thinking about entering a photo competition, consider submitting your work to NPOTY 2025. You have until May 18th to submit your images.
