The Northern Pantanal is a unique place in South America. it is part of the largest wetland and has the highest density of jaguars in the world. Besides jaguars, the Pantanal offers an abundance of other wildlife such as the Giant river otters, Giant anteaters, Hyacinth macaws and the Tocu Toucan to name a few.
During this jaguar safari we spend 5 full days on the river searching and photographing the majestic jaguars of the Pantanal.
Our experienced guides and drivers are great in both spotting jaguars and as well positioning the boat for you to have the best photographic opportunities.
All our jaguar tours are scheduled in the dry-season.
From June – November, water levels are low and riverbanks are exposed. The wildlife is concentrated close to the water attracting the jaguars as well. Hence, it is the best time to observe and photograph the jaguars behaviour ranging from crossing rivers, mating and hunting.
Travelling in a small group enables us to comfortably explore nature by boat, ensuring all the space you require as a photographer to move around and have your camera gear close to you.
Our jaguar safari brings you to the prime wildlife location located next to the Cuiaba river, the starting point of our daily jaguar outings.
We host numerous tours throughout the year, please enquire for other tour dates and private tours. Our private tours can be tailored to your specific preferences, including extensions to to stay at other lodges like Piuval for Giant anteater, Chapada or photographing the harpy eagles.
Upon your arrival in Cuiabá, we welcome you at the airport or the hotel you are staying.
Our adventure starts with a drive to Poconé –
a city known as the capital of the Pantanal.
At Poconé we continue our journey onto a dirt road called the Transpantaneira highway for 146 kilometres and crossing 122 bridges. During this scenic drive towards Porto Jofre, be prepared for encounters with diverse wildlife species as you may spot Marsh deer, anacondas, giant anteaters, toco toucans, tapirs, hyacinth macaws, crab-eating foxes and many other birds and mammals.
Once we arrive in Porto Jofre during the afternoon and complete the check-in, we have time to relax before our dinner. After our diner together, we will share the program for day 2, a full day outing by boat dedicated to spotting jaguars.
We start early morning to begin our search for jaguars. Throughout the day, approximately 10 hours, we navigate the Cuiaba river and it’s tributaries in search of these big cats.
During lunch time, when most of the boats return to the lodge, we will enjoy a lunch in the heart of the jaguar territory.
Our return to the lodge is around sunset. Upon arrival, you have the opportunity to fresh up, relax or review your photographs before our dinner at the restaurant.
Besides jaguars which is our main focus, there are other great wildlife opportunities to encounter. A few to name are the giant river otters, howler and capuchin monkeys, yellow anacondas, Jacaré caiman and various bird species such as Tocu toucans, Hyancinth Macaws, black skimmers and many more.
After breakfast we pack and check-out to start our way back on the Transpantaneira to Poconé and then Cuiabá in time for your flight.
